Massage Putney
A Pregnancy Massage is a type of massage therapy used during pregnancy. All of our Pregnancy Massage Therapists have had specialized training and they know what techniques are safe for you and your baby. Massage Therapists ensure proper positioning and support during treatment for both of your comfort and safety. Some techniques, such as deep tissue work, cannot be used.
This type of massage therapy can help you approach your due date with less anxiety and less physical discomfort. It can ease specific aches and pains in muscles and joints as well as act as an overall tonic and increase your body awareness. Also, it can help decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve back pain when choices for pain relief are often limited.
A pregnancy massage can be performed any time after the 1st trimester (12 weeks).
Post pregnancy, you can resume massage therapy after 6 weeks if you had a natural birth or 12 weeks if you had a C-section.
A Pregnancy massage is not suitable for you if you have one of the following conditions:
- Heavy discharge (bloody or watery)
- Gestational diabetes
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Pre-eclampsia or eclampsia (Pre-eclampsia is characterized by high blood pressure, swelling, and protein in the urine. If allowed to progress, this syndrome will lead to eclampsia)

Benefits of Pregnancy Massage in London
Pregnancy massage therapy can help with a lot of uncomfortable symptoms that occur during the gestational period and has been found to reduce stress, decrease swelling in the arms and legs, and relieve aches and pains in muscles and joints.
Treatment can address the various physical challenges of pregnancy: edema; foot, leg, or hand discomforts; and pain in the lower back, pelvis, or hips. Swedish massage may facilitate gestation by supporting cardiac function, placental and mammary development, and increasing cellular respiration. It can also reduce edema and high blood pressure as well as contribute to sympathetic nervous system sedation. Deep tissue, trigger point, and both active and passive movements alleviate stress on weight-bearing joints, muscles, and fascial tissues to reduce neck and back pain caused by poor posture and strain on the uterine ligaments.
Profound physiologic, functional, emotional, relational, and lifestyle changes occur during gestation and labor, often creating high stress levels. Too much stress can negatively affect maternal and infant health, resulting in reduced uterine blood supply and higher incidence of miscarriage, prematurity, and other complications. Massage therapy counteracts these negative potentials.
During labor, women whose partners use basic massage strokes on their backs and legs have shorter, less complicated labors.
Post Natal Pregnancy Massage
After the baby’s birth, massage therapy can gently facilitate the body’s return to its pre-pregnancy state, alleviate pain, foster a renewed sense of body and self, and help maintain flexibility despite the physical stresses of infant care. For post-Caesarean mothers, specific therapeutic techniques can also reduce scar tissue formation and facilitate the healing of the incision and related soft tissue areas.
